Celebrating 60 Years-Highlights of Our Sixth Decade

The University of Hartford began its 60th year on February 21, 2017 with a “Where’s Walt” scavenger hunt and birthday cake in the Commons. On this page, we’re sharing photos and a video about the day as well as some interesting and exciting University accomplishments that happened from 2007 to 2017. It’s not a comprehensive list but it is sure to spark some memories.

In the first two weeks of our 60th year, we are adding one year per day.

University Receives $2.3 Million For Need-Based Scholarships

Jan. 3 – The University of Hartford is the beneficiary of a $2.3 million gift from the estate of Marion A. Bills, a longtime Aetna executive who was the first woman officer at a Hartford insurance company.  Read More


New bridge over Park River opens

Jan. 18 – The long-awaited new bridge over the Park River opened to vehicles and pedestrians on Friday, Jan. 18, just in time for the start of the spring semester.  Read More


President Obama Speaks on Campus

April 8 – President Barack Obama delivered a high-profile speech on gun control Monday, April 8, at the University of Hartford. He called on Congress to pass “common sense” measures to reduce gun violence. Photos by Shana Sureck and Chris Volpe.  Read More


Lucille Nickerson becomes University’s first female chair of the board of regents

 May 10 – Lucille M. Nickerson has been elected chair of the University of Hartford Board of Regents, becoming the first woman chair in the University’s history.  Read More


Hawks Claim Second-Straight America East Academic Cup

June 19 – The University of Hartford clinched its second-straight America East Academic Cup in 2012-13 after posting the highest grade point average of any school in the 18-year history of the award, as announced by the America East conference on June 19.  Read More


Student wins Martin and Fulbright scholarships

July 3 – Miles Aron '13, the recipient of one of the University of Hartford’s highest awards at this year’s Commencement, the John G. Martin Scholarship to Oxford University, also has been awarded one of the world’s most prestigious educational honors, a Fulbright scholarship.

New Wordmark and Brand Identity Guide Released

July 31 – The University of Hartford's branding initiative has reached its next milestone. Today (Wednesday, July 31) marks the release of UHart's new brand identity system. At its core is a new wordmark (at right) that replaces all previous logos.  Read More


Class of 2017 Starts a New Tradition

Sept. 3 – Some 1,500 new students wore T-shirts emblazoned with that message Saturday, as they officially became members of the University of Hartford community.  Read More


UHart Gospel Choir Wins at CT Music Awards

Sept. 17 – The University of Hartford Gospel Choir won Best Gospel Group at the 2nd Annual Connecticut Music Awards on Sept. 17 at The Bushnell in Hartford.  Read More


Barney in Princeton Review’s Best 295 Business Schools

Oct. 22 – The University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business has been named one of the nation's most outstanding business schools, according to the education services company, The Princeton Review.  Read More
