Celebrating 60 Years-Highlights of Our Sixth Decade

The University of Hartford began its 60th year on February 21, 2017 with a “Where’s Walt” scavenger hunt and birthday cake in the Commons. On this page, we’re sharing photos and a video about the day as well as some interesting and exciting University accomplishments that happened from 2007 to 2017. It’s not a comprehensive list but it is sure to spark some memories.

In the first two weeks of our 60th year, we are adding one year per day.

First annual Martin Luther King Day celebration held on campus

Jan. 15 – The University of Hartford celebrated the national holiday honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday with inspiring speeches, readings, musical performances, and calls to continue pursuing King's dream of racial equality and social justice.  Read More


Celebration of the University’s 50th anniversary

Feb. 21 – The University marked its 50th birthday Wednesday with what President Walter Harrison described as a "joyful celebration," including a ‘50s themed party and a boisterous women's basketball game.  Read More


Hartford Art School dedicates the Renée Samuels Center

April 17 – The Hartford Art School entered a new era on Tuesday with the dedication of the Renée Samuels Center, a striking new facility that brings together arts and technology.  Read More


University Celebrates Its 50th Commencement

May 19, 20 – "Remember, there are those who make things happen, those who watch what happens, and those who ask, what happened? What do you want to be?"  Read More


Hawk Hall Opens

Aug. 15 – The corridors in Hawk Hall are painted in bright, vibrant colors, with a different color for each wing.  Read More


Alumni plaza dedicated, time capsule buried, and Dionne Warwick performs on campus

Oct. 20, 21 – A sold-out concert by Dionne Warwick and the burial of the University's 50th anniversary time capsule were among the highlights of a Fall Weekend that saw the campus bustling with activity.  Read More
